We also recognize shipping charges can play a significant role in a purchase, and that is why we do everything we can to keep shipping rates as low as possible. We do not inflate the price of our products as a mask for free shipping offers. Our product prices are set at the best pricing we can offer, and the amount charged for shipping covers the shipping and delivery of your order. We believe this transparency in costs is the best way to keep you well-informed while receiving the best price available.

Calculate Your Shipping
You can calculate your shipping charge in just a few quick steps:

  • Add your desired product(s) to the shopping cart.
  • Navigate to the Shopping Cart page.
  • Click the "Calculate Shipping" link in the cart totals section and enter your Country, State, City, & Zip Code, then select the 'Update' button.

Residential vs Commercial Address
Initial shipping charges calculated in the Shopping Cart are figured using a residential shipping rate unless you have previously entered a commercial address in the ship-to field during a previous checkout session. Deliveries to a commercial address are typically cheaper than deliveries to a residential address and will be reflected on the checkout page once the full address has been entered and the system confirms it is a commercial address.

LTL Freight Shipments
For larger freight or custom orders, we ask you to allow for a 7-10 business day lead time for product preparation and shipping set up. A customer service representative may reach out to you requesting additional information such as liftgate needs, receiving hours, or other order details. Once your order has shipped, you will receive tracking information. LTL Freight Costs will be calculated on the day of shipment and may vary from your initial estimate, resulting in additional charges.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

โ–ผ What is the MC Acetylene Cylinder โ€“ Steel used for?

The MC acetylene cylinder is a compact steel cylinder designed for portable oxy-acetylene welding, brazing, cutting, and light-duty heating applications.

This cylinder size is commonly used in HVAC service, plumbing, automotive repair, and small fabrication shops where mobility is important. The MC format offers a manageable size for field work while still providing sufficient acetylene capacity for short-duration tasks.

It is designed specifically for acetylene service and should only be filled with acetylene by a qualified gas supplier. As with all compressed gas cylinders, it ships empty and must be filled in accordance with local regulations and CGA standards.

โ–ผ Who should use an MC acetylene cylinder?

MC acetylene cylinders are well-suited for mobile welders, HVAC technicians, maintenance teams, and small fabrication shops that require a portable fuel gas solution.

This size is particularly useful for service trucks and on-site repair work where a full-size acetylene cylinder would be impractical. Businesses that prefer to own their cylinders and eliminate rental fees often choose MC cylinders for flexibility and cost control.

Customers are responsible for confirming compatibility with their regulator and torch setup before purchase.

โ–ผ What material is the MC acetylene cylinder made from?

The MC acetylene cylinder is constructed from high-strength steel designed for fuel gas service.

Steel construction provides durability for jobsite use and resistance to impact during transport and handling. The cylinder is manufactured to applicable DOT specifications for acetylene cylinders and includes the required porous mass and solvent system for safe acetylene storage.

As with all steel cylinders, surface finish and exterior details may vary slightly by manufacturer while remaining within approved tolerances.

โ–ผ What valve type does the MC acetylene cylinder use?

This MC acetylene cylinder is equipped with a CGA 510 valve outlet, which is standard for acetylene service in the United States.

CGA 510 is the recognized Compressed Gas Association fitting for acetylene regulators and torch connections. Always confirm that your regulator is designed for CGA 510 connections before installation.

Never attempt to modify or adapt valve connections. Use only properly rated acetylene regulators and fittings.

โ–ผ What are the key specifications of the MC acetylene cylinder?

Key specifications typically include:

  • Cylinder type: MC acetylene
  • Material: Steel
  • Service: Acetylene only
  • Valve: CGA 510
  • DOT-compliant construction
  • Ships empty

Exact dimensions, tare weight, and manufacturing source may vary slightly by production batch but remain within standard industry tolerances. All cylinders meet applicable DOT requirements for acetylene transport and service.

Customers should review stamped markings on the cylinder shoulder for exact service pressure and certification details upon receipt.

โ–ผ Is the MC acetylene cylinder suitable for professional welding work?

Yes, the MC acetylene cylinder is suitable for light-duty professional welding and cutting applications.

It is commonly used for small repair jobs, brazing, and portable oxy-acetylene setups. For high-volume or extended cutting operations, a larger acetylene cylinder may be more appropriate to reduce refill frequency and ensure a consistent gas supply.

Selecting the right cylinder size depends on expected gas consumption and job duration.

โ–ผ How long does an MC acetylene cylinder last during use?

Cylinder duration depends on the torch tip size and acetylene flow rate.

For light brazing or small cutting tips, an MC cylinder can support multiple short service calls. Higher flow applications will reduce available operating time. Reviewing acetylene consumption charts for your torch setup will provide a more accurate estimate.

Always operate within recommended withdrawal rates for acetylene cylinders to maintain safety and performance.

โ–ผ Can this MC acetylene cylinder be used in a portable oxy-acetylene kit?

Yes, MC acetylene cylinders are commonly paired with portable oxygen cylinders in compact oxy-acetylene welding kits.

This size is widely used in service kits for HVAC, refrigeration, and maintenance technicians. Its manageable weight and footprint make it suitable for truck storage and jobsite transport.

Always secure cylinders upright during transport and use appropriate protective caps when required.

โ–ผ Does the MC acetylene cylinder ship full?

No. The MC acetylene cylinder ships empty for safety and regulatory compliance.

Compressed gas cylinders cannot be shipped filled via standard commercial carriers. After delivery, the cylinder must be filled by a qualified gas supplier authorized to handle acetylene service.

Customers should inspect and pressure test the cylinder according to their gas supplierโ€™s procedures before placing it into service.

โ–ผ Is this a rental cylinder or an owned cylinder?

This MC acetylene cylinder is sold for customer ownership, not rental.

Ownership eliminates recurring monthly rental or lease fees commonly associated with traditional gas suppliers. Many businesses prefer this model for cost control and asset management.

It is the customerโ€™s responsibility to maintain required hydrostatic testing and comply with applicable regulations over the cylinderโ€™s service life.

โ–ผ How often does an acetylene cylinder require testing?

Acetylene cylinders must be requalified in accordance with their specific DOT marking and applicable regulations.

Testing intervals vary by specification and service conditions. Customers should review the stamped retest date and DOT specification on the cylinder shoulder and coordinate with an authorized retest facility when required.

Using a cylinder that is out of test is unsafe and non-compliant.

โ–ผ Can this cylinder be filled at any gas supplier?

Most welding gas suppliers can fill DOT-compliant acetylene cylinders with a CGA 510 valve, but acceptance policies vary by location.

Before purchasing, confirm with your local supplier that they will fill customer-owned acetylene cylinders. Policies can differ based on regional practices and internal guidelines.

All filling must be performed by trained personnel in accordance with CGA and DOT safety standards.

โ–ผ Can this MC cylinder be used with propane or other fuel gases?

No. This cylinder is designed specifically for acetylene service.

Never fill a cylinder with a gas for which it is not rated or certified. Using incompatible gases can create serious safety hazards and violate regulatory requirements.

Always match the cylinder, valve type, and regulator to the intended gas service.

โ–ผ How should the MC acetylene cylinder be stored and transported?

The cylinder should be stored upright in a well-ventilated area away from heat sources.

During transport, secure the cylinder to prevent tipping and protect the valve from damage. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 125ยฐF (51.7ยฐC). Follow OSHA and DOT guidelines for handling and storage of compressed fuel gases.

Proper storage practices extend cylinder life and reduce risk.

โ–ผ How does an MC acetylene cylinder compare to a B or 75 cu ft acetylene cylinder?

An MC cylinder is smaller and more portable than B or 75 cu ft acetylene cylinders.

The tradeoff is capacity. Larger cylinders provide longer run time and fewer refills, making them better suited for fabrication shops or extended cutting operations. The MC size prioritizes portability and convenience for short-duration or mobile work.

Choosing between sizes depends on usage frequency, workspace constraints, and refill logistics.

โ–ผ Is steel the right material choice for this cylinder?

Steel acetylene cylinders are durable and cost-effective for most welding and service applications.

While heavier than aluminum cylinders, steel offers strong impact resistance and is commonly used in stationary or rugged jobsite environments. For applications requiring frequent carrying or reduced weight, material considerations should be evaluated across the full welding setup.

Customers should balance portability, durability, and budget when selecting cylinder material.
