Reconditioned 23 cu ft. Steel Nitrogen Cylinder

This narrow (perfect for smaller spaces) recertified 23 cu ft. steel nitrogen cylinder is a great value and performs like new. It is freshly refurbished, hydro-tested, DOT/TC approved, painted, and fitted with a standard CGA580 valve. Our painting process creates a surface where the paint adheres to a durable finish.

Nitrogen can be used in HVAC applications for purging refrigerant lines and completing scale-free brazing jobs. Inert gases can be used for purging refrigerant from tubing, flowing and preventing oxidation while brazing, and pressurizing a system for leak detection or a coolant / cooling system pressure test. You’ll also find nitrogen useful for getting oil out of the way before pulling a vacuum.

Overall, you can use nitrogen for applications where you’d usually use compressed air. Anytime you work with any kind of inert gas, you need a flow meter and regulator; as opposed to a standard gauge manifold.

Gas blends containing nitrogen can increase the mechanical properties of alloys containing nitrogen and prevent pitting corrosion in welding applications.

Fast Shipping

Gas Cylinder Source knows you need your product now, which is why we offer super-fast shipping and even have an express option. We also recognize shipping charges can play a significant role in a purchase, and that is why we do everything we can to keep shipping rates as low as possible. We do not inflate the price of our products as a mask for free shipping offers. Our product prices are set at the best pricing we can offer, and the amount charged for shipping covers the shipping and delivery of your order. We believe this transparency in costs is the best way to keep you well-informed while receiving the best price available.

Calculate Your Shipping
You can calculate your shipping charge in just a few quick steps:

  • Add your desired product(s) to the shopping cart.
  • Navigate to the Shopping Cart page.
  • Click the "Calculate Shipping" link in the cart totals section and enter your Country, State, City, & Zip Code, then select the 'Update' button.

Residential vs Commercial Address
Initial shipping charges calculated in the Shopping Cart are figured using a residential shipping rate unless you have previously entered a commercial address in the ship-to field during a previous checkout session. Deliveries to a commercial address are typically cheaper than deliveries to a residential address and will be reflected on the checkout page once the full address has been entered and the system confirms it is a commercial address.

LTL Freight Shipments
For larger freight or custom orders, we ask you to allow for a 7-10 business day lead time for product preparation and shipping set up. A customer service representative may reach out to you requesting additional information such as liftgate needs, receiving hours, or other order details. Once your order has shipped, you will receive tracking information. LTL Freight Costs will be calculated on the day of shipment and may vary from your initial estimate, resulting in additional charges.

Time to Ship
Product is shipped from Minnesota. Transport time is usually between 1 and 5 days. Orders typically ship out the following business day after the order has been placed. Larger orders, and especially those going via a contracted freight service, may take additional time.

Order Tracking
Once your order has been shipped, an email will be sent to you with tracking details as well as a link you can use to track your shipment and find estimated delivery information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

▼ What does a recertified nitrogen cylinder mean?

Recertified means the cylinder has been hydrostatically tested, inspected, refinished, and re-stamped with a current date by an authorised facility. It is fully compliant for filling and carries the same DOT and TC approval as a new cylinder. The saving over a new cylinder is typically significant with no difference in service life.

▼ What is a 23 cf nitrogen tank used for?

The 23 cf size suits HVAC pressure testing and brazing purges, beverage and coffee dispensing, laboratory work, and any application where the cylinder needs to be carried between jobs. Larger fixed installations usually move up to 40 cf or higher. The gas is identical regardless of cylinder size.

▼ How long does a 23 cf nitrogen cylinder last for HVAC work?

For intermittent pressure testing and brazing purges a 23 cf cylinder commonly covers several service calls. Continuous purging consumes gas far faster than testing, so technicians doing long brazing runs often prefer a 40 cf or larger cylinder. Regulator flow setting is the main variable.

▼ What is the difference between a nitrogen tank and a nitrogen cylinder?

They are the same thing. “Tank” is the everyday term and dominates on Google, while “cylinder” is the industry and DOT term and is more common on Bing and in supplier catalogues. Product listings use the two interchangeably.

▼ Does a nitrogen cylinder need a special regulator?

Yes, it needs a regulator with a CGA580 inlet, the standard inert gas connection. HVAC work usually calls for a high-pressure regulator capable of delivering the elevated test pressures required for pressure testing, which differs from a low-pressure welding flowmeter. The regulator is sold separately.

▼ Can this nitrogen cylinder be refilled with argon or helium instead?

Yes. A CGA580 cylinder is rated for nitrogen, argon, helium, and inert mixes, so the same bottle can be refilled with a different inert gas. Tell the filling supplier which gas is required. The cylinder itself does not need modification.

▼ Where can a nitrogen tank be refilled?

Most welding gas suppliers and industrial gas distributors fill nitrogen cylinders, and because this cylinder is owned outright it can be taken to any of them. Ownership avoids the monthly rental charges attached to leased cylinders and the requirement to return to one supplier.

▼ Is nitrogen dangerous to work with?

Nitrogen is inert, non-flammable, and non-toxic, but it displaces oxygen, so releasing a large quantity in an enclosed unventilated space creates an asphyxiation risk. Work in ventilated areas and never use nitrogen to blow down clothing or confined spaces. The pressure itself is the other hazard, which is why the regulator must be rated correctly.

▼ Does the nitrogen cylinder ship full?

No, it ships empty. Compressed gas cannot be sent by standard carriers under hazardous materials rules, so the cylinder arrives empty with the valve fitted and is filled at a local supplier.

▼ How often does a nitrogen cylinder need requalification?

High-pressure steel cylinders require periodic hydrostatic requalification, typically every five or ten years depending on the cylinder and test method used, with the current date stamped on the shoulder. A recertified cylinder starts from a fresh test date. Filling stations check that stamp before every fill.
