New 250 cu ft Steel Oxygen Cylinder with CGA540 valve installed

This heavy-duty and industrial-sized 250 cuft steel oxygen cylinder tank meets all of your industrial oxygen needs. The thick, durable steel walls are painted in a standard oxygen green using rust-resistant paint to keep your tank looking it’s best.

So many applications; oxygen filling systems, therapeutic purposes, metals industry, and welding industry.

Oxygen is used in small amounts as an addition to other gases in welding applications; typically, as 2-5% addition to argon. It enhances arc stability and reduces the surface tension of the molten metal, increasing wetting of the solid metal.

Premium Construction

  • Durable steel construction.
  • Thick, rust stop painted walls.
  • High-quality valve installed.

Quality Features

  • 9.5″ diameter x 55.75″ height (with valve) Note: due to differences between manufacturers, cylinder height may vary slightly.
  • DOT approved
  • New CGA540 valve
  • Steel Cap and Collar
  •  108 lb. tare weight
  • Common letter designation (please refer to cubic feet): H
  • Applications: Industrial, Medical, Welding
  • Ships empty

All cylinders ship empty. Doctor’s prescription required to fill with medical oxygen. Seek the advice of a physician if you have questions about the proper use of medical oxygen. Please be sure to use a regulator that fits the cylinder valve, and that is correct for your application of use.

Fast Shipping

Gas Cylinder Source knows you need your product now, which is why we offer super-fast shipping and even have an express option. We also recognize shipping charges can play a significant role in a purchase, and that is why we do everything we can to keep shipping rates as low as possible. We do not inflate the price of our products as a mask for free shipping offers. Our product prices are set at the best pricing we can offer, and the amount charged for shipping covers the shipping and delivery of your order. We believe this transparency in costs is the best way to keep you well-informed while receiving the best price available.

Calculate Your Shipping
You can calculate your shipping charge in just a few quick steps:

  • Add your desired product(s) to the shopping cart.
  • Navigate to the Shopping Cart page.
  • Click the "Calculate Shipping" link in the cart totals section and enter your Country, State, City, & Zip Code, then select the 'Update' button.

Residential vs Commercial Address
Initial shipping charges calculated in the Shopping Cart are figured using a residential shipping rate unless you have previously entered a commercial address in the ship-to field during a previous checkout session. Deliveries to a commercial address are typically cheaper than deliveries to a residential address and will be reflected on the checkout page once the full address has been entered and the system confirms it is a commercial address.

LTL Freight Shipments
For larger freight or custom orders, we ask you to allow for a 7-10 business day lead time for product preparation and shipping set up. A customer service representative may reach out to you requesting additional information such as liftgate needs, receiving hours, or other order details. Once your order has shipped, you will receive tracking information. LTL Freight Costs will be calculated on the day of shipment and may vary from your initial estimate, resulting in additional charges.

Time to Ship
Product is shipped from Minnesota. Transport time is usually between 1 and 5 days. Orders typically ship out the following business day after the order has been placed. Larger orders, and especially those going via a contracted freight service, may take additional time.

Order Tracking
Once your order has been shipped, an email will be sent to you with tracking details as well as a link you can use to track your shipment and find estimated delivery information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

▼ Is a 250 cu ft oxygen cylinder the same as an H tank?

Yes, in common industrial use. “H tank” is a size nickname rather than an official designation, and it usually refers to a large high-pressure oxygen cylinder in this capacity class. If a supplier or a piece of equipment documentation asks for an H tank, this is the size normally meant. Confirm the CGA540 connection matches your regulator either way.

▼ How much does a 250 cu ft oxygen cylinder weigh?

Empty weight for this specific cylinder is listed in the specifications on this page, and a full high-pressure oxygen bottle of this size is heavy enough that it should always be moved on a cylinder cart rather than carried. It is not a portable size. Anyone needing to move oxygen regularly should look at a smaller cylinder instead.

▼ What oxygen cylinder sizes are available, and where does 250 cu ft fit?

Oxygen cylinders are commonly sold in 20, 40, 60, 80, 125, 150, 250 and 300 cubic foot sizes. At 250 cu ft this is near the top of the range, chosen by fabrication shops and production users who would otherwise refill a smaller bottle constantly. Smaller sizes remain the better choice wherever the cylinder has to be carried.

▼ What valve and regulator does this oxygen cylinder use?

It comes with a CGA540 valve, the standard connection for industrial oxygen in this pressure class. Any CGA540 oxygen regulator threads on directly. Never fit a regulator intended for fuel gas or an inert gas to an oxygen cylinder, and never use oil or grease on an oxygen connection.

▼ How long will a 250 cu ft oxygen cylinder last for cutting?

Oxygen consumption in cutting is set by the torch tip size and cutting pressure, so a 250 cu ft bottle can run a long shift on light work or empty quickly on heavy plate. As a rule, oxygen is consumed several times faster than acetylene on the same job, which is why oxygen bottles in a cutting set are usually the larger of the pair. Match the bottle to the tip you actually run.

▼ Is this industrial oxygen or medical oxygen?

This is an industrial oxygen cylinder for welding, cutting and industrial use. Medical oxygen is prescription-controlled and supplied through different channels with different cylinder and valve requirements. Do not use an industrial cylinder for any medical or breathing purpose.

▼ Does the oxygen cylinder ship filled?

No. All cylinders ship empty for transport safety and must be filled before use. Take it to a qualified gas supplier who will fill it to the marked service pressure. Oxygen is filled only by suppliers equipped for oxygen service.

▼ Do I own this oxygen cylinder or is it a rental?

You own it outright, with no lease and no ongoing rental charges. That lets you refill or exchange at any qualified supplier rather than being tied to one vendor. For a bottle this size, owning usually beats renting on cost within a fairly short period of regular use.

▼ Can my local gas supplier refill a 250 cu ft oxygen cylinder?

Yes, provided they handle oxygen and the cylinder is within its requalification date. The CGA540 connection is standard, so this is a routine fill for any welding gas supplier. They will check the collar stamp before filling.

▼ What pairs with a 250 cu ft oxygen cylinder for cutting and welding?

For oxy-fuel cutting it is normally paired with an acetylene cylinder, with the oxygen bottle sized larger because oxygen is consumed faster. You will also need a CGA540 oxygen regulator, a fuel-gas regulator for the other bottle, and hoses and a torch rated for the work. Flashback arrestors are strongly recommended on both lines.

▼ How should a large oxygen cylinder be secured and stored?

Store and use it upright, chained or strapped to a wall, bench or cart so it cannot fall. Keep the valve cap on whenever a regulator is not fitted, since a broken valve on a high-pressure cylinder is extremely dangerous. Store oxygen separated from fuel gases where local rules require it.

▼ When does a steel oxygen cylinder need requalification?

It is requalified on a set DOT interval, with the last test date stamped into the collar. Suppliers check that date at every fill and will refuse an out-of-date cylinder. A new cylinder starts fresh, so the next requalification is years out.

▼ Can this cylinder be used for anything other than oxygen?

No. A cylinder in oxygen service with a CGA540 valve should stay in oxygen service. Changing a cylinder’s gas service requires cleaning and valve changes by a qualified facility, and oxygen service in particular demands hydrocarbon-free preparation.

▼ What is the difference between a 250 cu ft and a 300 cu ft oxygen cylinder?

The 300 cu ft holds more gas and is correspondingly taller and heavier; the 250 cu ft is the more common shop size and easier to place. Both use the same CGA540 connection, so a regulator moves between them. Choose on refill frequency and on the space and handling equipment available.
